Sorry ladies, I'm married now...

Sun Nov 9, 2008, 12:33 PM
I have news. 4 October 2008, mark it in your diary. It's the date I took myself "off the market" and got married :)

We had an awesome day, Kristy looked even more beautiful than usual, weather was great for a beach ceremony, reception went without a hitch, I didn't stuff up my speech or bridal waltz, and the honeymoon was magnificent.

"Seeing" the unusual...EVERY DAY
hey so i was looking into some cheap alternatives to purchasing hard core macro gear and i found these lens tube extenders
[link]
they can all be connected together and all sorts of fun, but i'm still incredibly new to photography and i really don't understand much of the stuff (though i'm trying very hard)
i was hoping to get your feedback on the stuff, since you appear to have the whole macro thing down and understood

No worries, I'll try to help if I can, but I need to understand what gear you have and what you want to achieve.

What camera and lenses do you have? Do you have a flash/speedlite? What other gear do you have?

What do you want to shoot? (bugs, flowers, or still life?)
i'll be shooting mostly bugs and flowers etc
i have a nikon D90 with the kit lens (18-105mm VR blah blah blah) and a 50mm
and ta this point…i can't really afford to get anything for more than 200 (at least not for a few months)
as for other gear…nothing :(

Ok, gotcha. Well a good starting point will be the extension tubes you mentioned and your 50mm lens. You'll get close to 1:1 macro. Reason I mentioned flashes is that to get a decent depth of field, you need apertures of f/8 to f/11 say, and at the sort of shutter speeds and ISO's you want to shoot at, light will be tricky. Not that it can't be done, you'll just need to compromise. Probably bump up the ISO to 400, 800 or something, keep shutter speeds down to 1/100 or something.
my 50mm shoots f/22-1.8…though i can't seem to get it to shoot when i have it set to anything other than 22
