This is by far the best fly macro I've done. I think those are some sort of mite (reddish colour) under it's wings.

hi, what lens do u have? i just bought my self a Nikon 105mm micro one week ago. However, the problem is the focus area is so tiny. For example, i took some pictures of a fly, i only see details of the head and the rest is so blur. i was wondering how did u do your?? thanks
I have probably the Canon equivalent of the lens you have - the Canon 100mm. I've also used the Sigma 105mm and they're all very similar.
When you say "focus area", I think you mean "depth of field" (DoF) - ie what is in focus.
And yes, it is very shallow for macro. The reason is that DoF is related to focus distance and aperture. When you're shooting very close subjects, the depth of field is razor thin. What you have to do to increase the DoF is close the aperture down to around f/11. Even then it's very shallow DoF, but manageable.
Do you shoot full manual, or are you using some sort of auto mode?
